Stephanie Herman's Background Stephanie Herman brings years of knowledge, training, and experience into her fitness work. Ms. Herman studied and performed dance -- ballet, jazz, modern, theatre -- under legendaries George Balanchine, Alvin Ailey, Martha Graham and others. At the age of 19, she became a soloist with George Balanchine's Swiss ballet companies and was soon dancing with Nureyev and Baryshnikov on some of the world's most prominent stages. Further training included the disciplines of Pilates, yoga and the Gyrotonic Expansion System®. Stephanie's fitness method was born from efforts to heal herself. After a debilitating back injury which left her unable to sit up for a year, and the failure of doctors to heal her, Stephanie drew upon her training and educated herself about body mechanics and kinetics. Using a program she designed, Stephanie surprised her doctors with a quick and complete recovery that left her stronger than before. During that time, Ms. Herman delved deeply into the philosophy and science of physical expression, psychology and rehabilitation. Certified by the American College of Sports Medicine (ASCM), Ms. Herman is fully versed in the physiology of human musculature. This therapeutic element is present in every workout she creates. After founding and directing her DanceAerobics studio in New York for many years, Ms. Herman founded and operates Stephanie Herman's Muscle Ballet, LLC in the San Francisco Bay Area. Ms. Herman has been featured on talk shows and in national and international publications for her unique and effective dance fitness programs. |
"Uncovering the dancer within" is not just a tagline. Stephanie's breaks down exercises and strips movements to their essence. Mindless repetitions and self-criticism have no place here. Instead, Stephanie guides you through proper breathing and effective movement as you grow leaner, calmer, more fit and less prone to injury. This makes Muscle Ballet® easy enough for beginners to follow, yet challenging for even professional dancers and athletes. Whether you join Stephanie in her classes, or in private workout sessions, you'll discover in 6 weeks that "you do not have to be a dancer, to move and look like one..."
